You are learning about Amy Johnson because she was a very famous British pilot who flew her plane, called Jason, on her own, all the way to Australia. She was the first women to fly this dangerous journey which took her 20 days. This was at a time when people had only been flying planes for a very short time so she was very brave.

She was also able to do other jobs, like mending planes that, at that time, only men did. She was determined that nothing should stand in her way. This made her a great role model for other women. There were other famous women aviators at the time, such as the American Amelia Earhart, but Amy Johnson was the best-known British one and soon became a heroine in this country.
