The accompanying diagram attempts to display all the main elements of developing your pupils’ historical understanding, in one place. You’ll see that pupils’ historical knowledge broadens over time as does their ability to enquire independently. All the major historical concepts are started in KS1 and pupils are introduced to a full range of sources as shown. As they move through the school their grasp of the concepts becomes more sophisticated and the range and complexity of the sources is greater.
