To prevent retrieval activities simply resembling a random fact pub quiz  consider using the following , which I’m sure many of you are, in some form or other. You’ll notice that the emphasis is placed on disciplinary as well as content knowledge.

The grid below has nine questions to do with Romans in Britain. They each have a tariff suggesting level of difficulty. Pupils work in teams to amass highest score, but if they get the question they have chosen wrong they get zero points.
