
Rather than going through all the different methods used chronologically, this really fun session focuses on one year and casts the pupils as advisers to a castle builder who wants to make his new castle as well protected as it can be against all new forms of attack.
Using this Mantle of the Expert approach pupils are far better engaged as they build their knowledge and understanding.

Part 1: The Reconstruction relay
Step 1
Set the scene (see main powerpoint) The year is 1385. A new castle is being built. The children are to be spies to see if they can sketch the castle and bring back some drawings for the local lord who wants to copy the new castle but can’t be seen. So
