4 March 1824: It is 200 years since Sir William Hillary founded the National Institution for the Preservation of Life from Shipwreck, which became the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, 1924.

25 July – 210 years since George Stephenson built the first practical steam locomotive in 1814

13 August – 60 years since the last execution in the UK when Peter Anthony Allen and Gwynne Owen Evans were hanged for the murder of John Alan West, 1964
Florence Nightingale – KS1
4 November: 180 years since Florence Nightingale and a team of Nurses arrived in the Crimea in 1854
