Students are given the lyrics of a song about flappers (copy provided) and have to find 10 references that prove the connection.  The first is done together as a whole class; the other 9 can be found quickly. To help students visualise what flappers look like, students are shown a short 4 minute clip of the Julie Andrews film using the YouTube URL provided.  What new ideas does this short clip offer?

Students then watch a 6 minute YouTube video from which they have to find as many additional features of ‘being a flapper’ as they can.  I would like to acknowledge the source of the idea which came from Ian Phillips’ book on the Reflective history teacher (Sage publications, 2008).
