This key question is divided into two distinct parts, starting with Part 1 – the Olympics. This has its own outstanding fully-resourced series of tasks which can be found on the site. Part 2 below looks at Ancient Greek theatre:

To start, pupils are shown a series of 4 images of Ancient Greek theatres both those that have survived and artists’ illustrations of how they might have looked.  From these, pupils have to find 6 features that they think would be typical of Ancient Greek theatres.  This ability to look closely at what is common in each and to make deductions from clues is an important life skill and one we need to develop so don’t rush the task.

There are probably 8 features that Y5/6 pupils should be capable of spotting.
1. They were open-air
2. They were bowl-shaped
3. They were built into the hill-side
