According to a survey published today only 1 in 50 primary pupils have sharp enough critical skills to detect fake news. It concluded : If we don’t take urgent action to bring the  teaching of critical literacy skills in the 21st century and to engage children actively with news, we risk damaging young people’s democratic futures..” What better training ground can there be than the history classroom for helping pupils to work out the difference between fact and false news, between myth and reality. History remains the best crap-detecting subject of all!!
