If Ernst Rohm was one of Hitler’s closest allies, as you can see in this photo, why then did he have him and other members of the SA murdered in June 1934?

On the cards you have been given are several ideas that have been put forward by historians over the past 70 years as to why Rohm was assassinated.  Look at each card and assess its merits.  Does it sound convincing to you?  Use the sources that follow, if you need, to find support for the various arguments.  Then come to your own conclusion.  You will probably need to group the causes and then prioritise them to show that you can do more than simply list different causes.  Use the thinking behind the way you organised the cards to answer the enquiry question above.  Do this first orally and then attempt a short written answer.
