Knowledge organisers

We’ve been busy over the summer putting together a long list of Knowledge Organisers at both KS1 and KS2 in response to your requests. So, ready for a September start are the following:

KS1

KS2

Assessment tasks

Increasingly we are receiving requests for new assessment tasks to be produced. In response we have added the following to the site over the summer, with more in the pipeline.

KS1

KS2

New units of work

KS1 – Rosa Parks

To help make your KS1 teaching more inclusive and to strengthen your teaching in black history we have produced a brand-new KS1 significant person topic on Rosa Parks which will be extended in to a broader topic on fighting for your rights to follow later this term.

KS1 – Strategies for teaching chronology: anachronism

Keeping up-to-date with your reading

OFSTED report 2023 summary

Periodically OFSTED produces a detailed state-of-the union report on primary history. The last major report was in 2011. Since then we have had summaries of research findings ( published in 2021), but this is the fullest survey of recent practice. I have to say that its pretty long-winded and repetitive so we have summarised the key points, with our own summary, for you to quickly access what you need to know now, with aa link to the full report.

What’s coming next?

EYFS topics

Upcoming YR/Y1 topics. ‘When I was young’ and ‘On the move’. Both of these topics, aimed at the youngest children, are being developed this term. If you would like to be kept up-dated on the progress or would like to see early drafts then please feel free to make contact.

Amelia Earhart

Famous female pioneer, queen of the skies, who provides an excellent comparative study on the theme of flight.

KS2 New feature:  Diamond polished lessons

You all have your favourite lessons which you look forward to teaching every year. We know because you tell us how well they go down in the classroom. But because they are excellent doesn’t mean that they couldn’t be even better, often because a new resource or slant has emerged.  So we are embarking on a series of diamond polished lessons which will appear as the need arises. The first of these is our all-time favourite Opening of Tutankhamun’s tomb.

Website and resource refresh

You may have noticed that we have redeveloped the site with a new look and feel to perform better on mobile, tablet and desktop and enhance the your user experience.  Any feedback regarding the site would be gratefully received.

We have also completed the refresh of Powerpoints and PDF resources into the latest MS formats to make sure they are ‘classroom ready’ and easy for you to edit.  Again, any feedback regarding improvements you would like to see to resources please let us know
