Columbus is a world-famous navigator and explorer whose daring voyages in search of the Indies led to the opening of the Americas. The world today would be a very different place if he had not set sail. His life is a great example of someone following their dreams and never giving up. You may be learning about Columbus as part of an Explorers topic when you also look at other explorers such as Neil Armstrong who landed on the moon. The difference was, of course, that Columbus lived 500 years before and was actually looking to find his way to the riches of India and China and thought he had found them, when he had actually arrived in the West Indies!
